The development of a child’s foot and lower limb is critical to ensure that they are able to enjoy a happy, healthy and active adult life. Kids feet and legs develop very rapidly, and it can be difficult for parents to know what is normal, and what isn’t. The growing foot needs special care as the bones are predominantly cartilage, and as such they cannot be considered “small adults”. The start of the new school year often means that new school shoes are necessary. Here is a quick overview of a child foot and some tips on getting fitted for good quality shoes for your child this year.
It goes without saying that children are always growing and changing! It’s exciting to watch them grow and become more confident on their feet. This often quite rapid growth, however, can result in children experiencing vague symptoms that can be difficult for parents to identify – or know what to do to help.

Originally from a small country town in Central Western Queensland, Kelly enjoyed a wide variety of sports competing at representative levels in swimming, netball, tennis and water polo. Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder where the cell division of a developing baby results in them having an extra copy of chromosome 21. The result is physical and developmental changes in the child.
Many of these characteristics are well understood and are able to be managed. The related foot conditions are also generally well understood, although management and treatment of these often painful and debilitating symptoms are often overlooked or ignored. Here at My FootDr, we believe that all children with Down Syndrome should be clinically assessed so that the right steps can be taken to help the child feel comfortable, walk and play confidently, and help prevent or slow the onset of other problems.
Diabetes is a systemic metabolic disorder that impairs the body’s ability to absorb glucose from the blood stream and provide it to the tissue cells that require it for normal activity and health. The elevated blood glucose levels that remain in the bloodstream affect all body organs and systems, including the circulatory system and the peripheral nerves of the lower limb.
Our centres provide the full scope of clinical podiatry including comprehensive foot assessments, various treatments and surgery. Sometimes your feet just need a bit of pampering and we also offer a large range of aesthetic podiatry procedures and foot care products to help ensure that your feet are always at their very best.Read more
