If you thought that trimming toenails, analysing your walking pattern or making you custom orthotics was all that we offer here at My FootDr – think again! Our innovative team offers a range of world-class and often unexpected services across Australia that go far beyond what many people perceive to be ‘normal’ podiatry. Today, we’re highlighting ten of our services that you probably never knew we can help you with.
1. Kids Foot & Leg Care
Little people’s feet may constantly be growing and changing, but it’s never normal for them to be in pain. We help children stay happy and active on their feet and legs, assist healthy development, and help treat any pains and problems along the way.
We can help with problems like in-toeing, out-toeing, ‘growing pains’, warts, ingrown toenails, delayed walking, knock-knees, tripping, falling, flat feet, pain during running, coordination, balance, toe-walking and more.
2. Healthy Looking Nails – In One Appointment
We offer cosmetic nail restoration – and our patients love it because they can come in with nails that are disfigured, broken or have been affected by a fungal nail infection – and walk out with nails that look healthy, smooth and clear. We use a special resin to create a new nail that merges with your existing nail. It is hardened in under two minutes using UV light.
3. Cobra9 Cycling Orthotics
Some of our podiatrists are road cyclists, performing cycling assessments under the ethos – for cyclists, by cyclists. The result is the Cobra9 cycling orthotics that are extremely light, thin and made from carbon fibre. They help:
- Increase your power and torque in the push phase
- Relieve plantar fascial tension
- Distribute force more evenly
- Improve shoe comfort and fit, supporting all three arches of the foot
- Treat forefoot pain, burning and numbness
- Crank rub and knee positioning
- Improve overall cycling performance
These assessments are currently only performed in Camp Hill and Hervey Bay.
4. TAG Brace
Having pioneered this innovative brace in Australia, the TAG brace is a game-changer for patients with diabetes and fractures. It uses patented prosthetic suspension technology to completely unload the foot and ankle, to eliminate pressure for patients that weight up to 260kg.
By letting you continue to walk during recovery without the need for crutches, muscular atrophy is dramatically reduced. At the same time, you can still apply weight to the rest of the skeletal structure to maintain bone density and stability.
5. NDIS Foot Care
My FootDr is a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider, meaning that we can help patients that cannot reach their toes to manage their skin and nails, provide medical-grade footwear, orthotics, ankle-foot orthotics, braces, walkers and more. This all works to help our patients manage their foot health and keep them comfortable, independent, and as mobile as possible. Call your local clinic to see what services they are currently able to provide through the NDIS.
6. Diabetic Foot Care
Diabetes Australia reports 4,400 amputations related to diabetic foot disease every year. They’ve also estimated that 85% of all diabetic foot problems are preventable, making caring for the feet and legs of those with diabetes paramount to their overall health and well-being.
We perform annual diabetic foot health assessments to assess the two key areas of damage from diabetes in the lower limbs – sensation and circulation. As the damage progressively worsens, knowing your current status and how to best look after your foot health can help prevent undesirable outcomes, such as difficult-to-heal wounds and infections.
7. Laser Treatment For Fungal Nails
With low treatment success rates published for the creams, lacquers and paints used to treat fungal nail infections, we knew we had to offer a better option for our patients. Laser was the superior solution.
We offer two types of laser across our clinics – hot laser and cold laser. They are both safe, effective and pain-free. The lasers work to destroy the fungus that has infected the nails, so the nails can grow out healthy and clear. The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes, and a number of sessions may be required, depending on the severity of your infection.
8. Shockwave Therapy For Pain Relief
Shockwave is a non-invasive solution for pain associated with soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments, muscles and fascia. It works by emitting acoustic waves which carry high energy to painful and damaged areas. This promotes regeneration, repair and pain relief.
Shockwave has also been shown to speed up the rate of recovering from injuries by increasing collagen production, as well as improving microcirculation and metabolic processes. It is great for chronic conditions – so don’t be put off if you’ve had your pain for years.
9. Custom-Made Footwear
While some people easily fit into any shoe in the store, others don’t have a ‘typical’ foot that can fit standard shoes. Certain medical conditions or problems may also leave a person with requirements that go beyond what a regular shoe can offer. That’s why we prescribe and manufacture custom-made shoes that are designed to meet the demands of your specific feet, protect your foot health, and keep you comfortable throughout the day.
We can accommodate any footwear requirement, from custom-made medical grade footwear for patients to elegant and stylish custom-made fashion shoes, orthopaedic or even fashion sandals with orthotic support.
10. Sports Shoe Conversions – Including Cricket Shoes
Want the comfort of your favourite trainer when playing golf, lawn bowls or cricket? We offer sports shoe conversions at our clinics, or online, for those seeking a better fit, comfort or improved performance out of their sport-specific footwear.
Custom Cricket Shoes in Brisbane was born after many local and international cricketers brought to us their needs for a sports shoe that can outperform their store-bought version. The result is a truly unique offering of podiatrists and shoemakers unmatched anywhere in Australia.
The professional podiatry experience and expertise behind Custom Cricket Shoes is why visiting cricket teams from around the world, as well as many players from the Big Bash League, choose us for their cricket shoe conversions.
