My FootDr Hope Island Kindergarten Screening

My FootDr Hope IslandThe team at My FootDr Hope Island is helping little feet stay healthy with the introduction of children’s foot screenings at local childcare centres.

The new initiative introduced by My FootDr will see local podiatrists visit childcare centres in Hope Island to check children under five for common foot problems.

My FootDr Hope Island Podiatrist Theresa Nguyen said the children’s foot screenings are very important, as early detection can prevent the development of potentially lifelong foot and lower limb complications.

“Children’s feet and legs develop rapidly, and how they develop impacts on a child’s ability to live happy, healthy and pain-free lives,” said Ms Nguyen.

“It is important for parents to better understand how to properly care for growing feet. This includes who to turn to for professional advice and how to prevent these conditions from developing into lifestyle-limiting issues.”

Children can experience everything from delayed walking, tippy-toeing, flat feet and bowed legs, pigeon toeing and clumsiness, ingrown toenails, plantar warts and more so it’s important any problems are identified early.

“To identify any problems or issues the foot screenings will involve a brief examination of each child’s foot structure and function, their footwear and analysis of their walking pattern,” said Miss Nguyen.

“Each child will be provided with a copy of the screening form to take home to their parents/carers where further advice and recommendations will be offered to parents/carers of children if required.”

My FootDr podiatry centres offer this community service at no cost to the centre or the parents for these screenings. In addition, My FootDr provides children NO GAP orthotics and appointments.

If your child is complaining about sore feet, you’re not alone. Thousands of Aussie kids face common childhood foot problems ranging from delayed walking, heel pain and growing pains through to ingrown toenails.

“Podiatrists can treat and prevent these conditions before they become lifestyle-limiting issues later in life, said Miss Nguyen.
