My FootDr Townsville celebrated Mother’s Day with over 500 participants at the annual ‘my FootDr Mother’s Day Fun Run and Walk’ at Aitkenvale’s Rossiter Park, which raised funds and awareness for the McGrath Foundation.
Local Podiatrists Brittany, Marcus and Nathan and Practice Manager, Ann Murray were on the track helping to strap the athletes and talking to competitors about their foot health.
Practice Manager, Ann Murray said she was proud to support local events like the Mother’s Day Fun Run.
“Events like the Mother’s Day Fun Run are great for the whole community and give our team the opportunity to give back.”
“It was a wonderful day out for the entire family with many runners and walkers of all age groups participating in the 5.2km loop run along the picturesque Rossiter Park.”
While community was the big winner, the run was won by local mother, Deahne Turnbull, who held off fierce competition from fellow road runner, Julia Anderson, to win the overall women’s event. James Alexander ran a dominant race to win the overall men’s category.
Turnbull, who has finished as first mum across the line in the past three Mother’s Day runs, said yesterday’s win came as a shock.
“It was a perfect day for it; the morning was beautiful, it was cool and there was no wind.
“There’s always a great atmosphere and it’s great to see so many people getting out there and having a go.
“Especially when there were other events happening in the city across the weekend, it was a great turnout.”
Townsville Road Runners President, Tony Gordon, said all runners deserved praise for taking part.
“It’s for such a worthy cause, and a big thanks has to go to the race sponsor My FootDr,” he said.
“They’ve supported this event for many years so all costs can go towards such a great cause.”
